MUA green nail polishes

Comparing MUA shades 5 and 23

Last year my nail obsession was any shade of blue, and although I still love my blues, my nail obsession for 2013 seems to be any shade of green. Recently, during the now infamous 50% off MUA sale, I ordered several nail polishes, well at 50p each it would have been rude not to. Amongst them were two greens and one greeny blue. Below you can see the comparison of the two green shades, 5 and 23.

 Shade 23, Khaki
(Please excuse my little finger nail, I accidently smudged it and just patched up instead of removing it and staring again)

Shade 5

Side by side

I took these photographs in day light in front of a window - and as such they are pretty good representations of the actual colours.

I used shade 23 - khaki, on my finger nails. I applied an OPI base coat, followed by two coats of the khaki and topped it off with one coat of OPI fast-dri top coat. Two coats of this colour provided full opaqueness. This polish lasted almost 5 days before any chips appeared. Normally my hands would be in and out of water a lot more than they were during these particular 5 days though as I wasn't well, and I would say that perhaps the polish would have lasted a day or so less under normal circumstances. But, for 50p I think the staying power is amazing.

On my toes I only applied two coats of shade 5, topped off with one coat of OPI fast-dri top coat, I actually forgot to apply a base coat. To be honest this colour really needs three coats to reach full opaqueness, but I was in pain with my back so couldn't manage a third coat. Saying that, my toe nail polish still lasted almost two weeks. After that time the polish on two of my toes basically peeled off, I think this was primarily due to the fact that most nights I applied lotion to my feet and wore socks to bed . But for 50p and two coats I am completely happy with its' longevity.

These polish bottles only contain 6.2 ml, smaller than most other brands out there, but since I never use a full bottle of polish up this size is fine with me, and did I mention, they only cost 50p in the sale? Let's face it, even at their full price of £1, these nail polishes are a great deal, but then so is everything from MUA.

Would I recommend these MUA polishes? Absolutely! Have you tried any MUA nail polishes? What are your thoughts on them?

  2. I have shade 5 it's really nice, I find it does need a couple of coats but really like the colour once it's opaque. I haven't tried shade 23 yet will have to keep an eye out for it when I'm in Superdrug, I love earthy colours like that x
